Under movement restriction or self-quarantine? Here are six (6) DIY colour maintenance tips for your hair.
Wash hair less often
You inevitably wash away some dye every time you wash your hair.
Probably the easiest among all the DIY colour maintenance tips. Now that no one is judging you for not washing your hair daily, cut down your shampoo frequency to 2-3 times per week.
Shampoo with cold water
Bear the cold.
We know how amazing it feels to have a nice hot shower, but if you really want to up your hair colour game, we highly recommend you bear the cold.
Water with lower temperature helps sealing cuticles to prevent hair colour pigment from escaping, while hot water tends to open up cuticles.
Use acidic or colour shampoo
If you can’t stand a day without shampooing your hair, replace your typical shampoo with either a mildy acidic shampoo, or a colour shampoo like IRIS Colour Shampoo.
Mildly acidic shampoos (pH of 4.5-5.5) accelerate the closing of hair cuticles which prevents the colour pigments from diffusing out of hair, while Colour Shampoo cleanses and re-dyes at the same time.
* Friendly reminder: Do not use your shampoo on your furry friends.
Add dye to your conditioner or use a hair mask
Keep your leftover dye.
Should you have leftover dye, add it to your conditioner as this slightly re-dyes every time you wash. If you’re lucky enough to stock up on some IRIS Colour Mask, you can just use that instead.
